A festival showcasing climate stories and environmental narratives.
26 November:
Lullaby Of Waves (India/ Assamese/ 2023/ 15 mins)
Dir. Ayon Pratim Saikia.
A 53-year-old woman reflects on her 26-year marriage and 25 years of motherhood, focusing on her journey to find employment in Sadiya, a remote region in Assam accessible only by crossing the Brahmaputra River. As an outsider from the "Hiporiya" region, she faced hostility and threats but embraced her new life. The river shaped her experiences, leaving a bittersweet impact. The filmmaker, her son, explores their connection to Sadiya, grappling with questions of belonging and identity in a place that, despite being his birthplace, views them as outsiders.
Abba (Italy/ Italian/ 2023/ 14 mins)
Dir. Fabiana Lupo.
What if humanity was forced to leave the planet as it had become inhospitable to life? What if two astronauts found themselves in a world similar to the one abandoned thousands of years earlier and had to come to terms with their barbaric past? A journey through the Universe in search of water, but basically a roundabout search for self. It is the extreme experience of the story's protagonist but, ultimately, the everyday experience of human beings.
27 November:
A Body Called Life (USA, Switzerland, Poland/ English/ 2024/ 15 mins)
Dir. Spencer MacDonald.
A self-isolated young human known as "James" delves into the hidden world of microscopic organisms, forging a tender connection with these nearly invisible creatures and developing a massive online following, as he seeks to understand his own place in the cosmos and accept the scars of his past.
Talk on “Stories of the Fungi World by Fungi Foundation”.
No Winter Holidays (Nepal, South Korea, Romania/ Nepali/ 2023/ 79 mins)
Dirs. Rajan Kathet, Sunir Pandey.
A reflective, intimate look at the human spirit, examining how communities adapt, endure, and dream amid the isolation of rural life.
Miles Away (India/ Bundeli, Hindi/ 2023/ 50 mins)
Dir. Megha Acharya.
The film follows a group of brick-makers from Bundelkhand to a kiln in Bindki, UP. The team’s interactions with the female workers provide an exploration into the personal spaces within the brick kiln.
28 November:
My Mercury (UK, USA/ English/ 2023/ 97 mins)
Dirs. Joëlle Chesselet, Pippa Erhlich.
Yves Chesselet, a 28-year-old conservationist, leaves modern life behind to live on Namibia's remote Mercury Island, where he undertakes a difficult mission: removing 15,000 seals to save endangered seabirds. His story told through diaries, video footage, and his sister Joëlle's narration, explores the moral dilemmas and psychological toll of rewilding. Yves' isolation, driven by his love for nature and troubled past, reflects the broader choices we face in a world damaged by human greed. The story highlights the cost of ecological restoration and one man's struggle to make a difference.
Followed by an online Q&A with the filmmaker.
