Event Description: An exhibition of paintings depicting the pristine landscapes and avian fauna from the Himalayas to Antarctica. The canvases capture the various journeys undertaken by the artist to highlight the relationship between man and nature and the magic of diverse ecosystems around the world.
About the Artist: Mr Ajai Saxena was born in the cradle of nature and did his early education in the Kumaon Hills. Soon after graduation in 1980 from the University of Allahabad, he joined Dr Salim Ali as Research Assistant in the Avifauna Project of BNHS. He joined the Indian Forest Service in 1984 and was allotted the Union Territories cadre. He has worked extensively in Andaman & Nicobar Islands for over 17 years, in addition to his postings to Arunachal Pradesh, Goa and recently in Mizoram; from where he is now moving back to Arunachal Pradesh to head the State Forest Department. He has also worked as Faculty at Wildlife Institute of India, Dehradun between 1995-2000 and with the Govt. of India from 2003-2007 as Director, Dept of Ocean Development, Ministry of Earth Sciences, spearheading the Indian Antarctic and other science programmes.
His interest and zeal to explore nature in its true sense have led him to take on exciting expeditions across India and the world. He participated in 16th Indian Antarctic Expedition in 1996-97 while at Wildlife Institute of India and is also a certified PADI Advanced SCUBA Diver.
John Gould, an English ornithologist and bird artist whose bird paintings, done in the nineteenth century, became the source of inspiration for Mr Saxena. Subsequent postings as Forest Officer in remote but pristine landscapes and his love for paintings and photography led to this memorable journey of depicting nature in all its glory on to the canvas.
