Event Description:
Indo-Australian production ‘Daughters Opera’ set for its world premiere in Delhi

Daughters Opera - an inter-cultural contemporary performance directed by Indian theatre director Anuradha Kapur with libretto written by Australian independent producer Tammy Brennan - is all set for its world premiere in Delhi this January.

Daughters Opera brings women from diverse backgrounds, cultures and languages in a cross-artform setting. The production invites an audience to a conversation about systemic violence and the globally shared experience of women and girls who have undergone trauma and resistance. With an all-female cast, the performance aims to address the ongoing everyday acts of gender violence, such as forced labour, infanticide, and injury alongside the expressive form of Portuguese Fado music, and live experimental electronics.

Music is composed by award-winning Australian composer David Chisholm and scenography is by Deepan Sivaram.

The World Premiere in New Delhi is funded and supported by the Australia Council for the Arts, Create NSW, Creative Victoria, the Australian High Commission New Delhi, and The Black Box Okhla.
