Event Description : HEALTH TALK "IIC and Open Health Systems Colloquium"
Indian Prehistory: How a multi-disciplinary approach involving population genetics, archaeology and linguistics is solving some of the oldest problems and can be used to solve many more
Welcome Address: Shri K.N. Shrivastava, Director, IIC
Lead presentation by Tony Joseph, journalist, columnist and contributor to leading newspapers and magazines for over three decades, and author of Early Indians: The Story of our Ancestors and Where we Came From
Discussant: Dr. Ken Buetow, Professor, School of Life Sciences at Arizona State University’s College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Director of the Computational Sciences and Informatics Program, Complex Adaptive Systems, Arizona State University
Chair: Prof. Partha P. Majumder, Founder and Distinguished Professor, National Institute of Biomedical Genomics Institute, India and Emeritus Professor, Indian Statistical Institute
Many key questions related to India’s population formation and prehistory have remained unanswered for decades, thanks to limitations of research findings in the relevant fields. Over the last few years, however, population genetic studies based on the DNA of people who lived thousands or tens of thousands years ago have been providing convincing answers to some of these questions. Mr. Joseph will draw on his experience while authoring the recently-published book Early Indians… to suggest possible ways to take our understanding of Indian prehistory forward
Collaboration: Open Health Systems Laboratory
