Dir. Suranga Deshapriya Katugampala.
Sunita, a middle-aged Sri Lankan woman, lives with her teenage son on the outskirts of a northern Italian city. The relationship between the mother and son is fraught with tension and silence. Having grown up in Italy, the boy is a cultural hybrid his mother struggles to understand, as she fights to live in a country, to which she does not want to belong. The screening will be followed by a discussion with the Director.

6th April : No Screening

7th April : Lorello e Brunello (Docu/2017/86 mins).
Dir. Jacopo Quadri.
The story of Brunello and Lorello Biondi, twins living in Pianetti di Sovana, southern Tuscany, revolves around time. All their time is completely dedicated to and consumed by constant work, as if they were condemned to some sort of existential labour. But, notwithstanding their efforts, they are on the verge of failure as they feel helpless in front of the dropping prices in the global economic market.

8th April : Più buio di mezzanotte (Italian/2014/98 mins).
Dir. Sebastiano Riso.
An adolescent from Catania in the 1980s, Davide has a feminine appearance. The violent father does not tolerate it. Faced with hormonal treatments to masculinize him, he runs away from home and finds refuge among the outcasts of Villa Bellini, trying to be himself.

9th April : Gli ultimi butteri (Docu/Italian/2018/120 mins).
Dir. Walter Bencini.
Alberese, in the Tuscan Maremma, is home to the last three remaining butteri. These are heroic men who still rear cattle in the wild. Two young men have joined the group to learn this traditional craft. But only one of them will make it.

10th April : Iuventa (Docu/Italian/2018/84 mins)
Dir. Michele Cinque.
Through a crowdfunding campaign, a group of youngsters buys a vessel, the Iuventa, and in July 2016 starts a search and rescue program in the Mediterranean Sea, rescuing more than 14,000 people. The documentary follows the life of the protagonists from the first mission of the boat for more than a year, until their utopic and humanitarian dream clashes with reality.
