Event Description : BOOK LAUNCH & DISCUSSION : Dr. Mujeeb Rizvi's "Sab Likhni ke Likhu Sansaara Padmavat aur Jaysi ki Duniya"
Mujeeb Rizvi's path breaking study of the Padmavat, being published posthumously, is a product of a nearly fifty year long engagement with the text and its habitat.
In this marvelous study, combining his deep knowledge of Persian, Arabic/Quranic, Awadhi and Hindi traditions, Rizvi re-interprets the Padmavat by situating it within the Indo-Persian Masnavi tradition and by showing how heavily it is influenced by Persian poetry, Sufi intellectual thought, Islamic cosmology and withal Jayasi's deep knowledge of Hindu philosophy and mythology.
Rizvi shows us that it is not possible to read Jayasi without knowing poets such as Rumi or Sadi from whom he borrows heavily while reinterpreting them, and Islamic thought, for an Indian context.
