DANCE "Manch Pravesh" Odissi Arangetram By Anika Tandon

Guru (Smt) Ranjana Gauhar, Padmashree and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee, figures amongst the foremost exponents in the milieu of Indian classical dance. A world-renowned Odissi dancer, she has travelled with her art of Odissi dance meserising audiences across the country and almost all the continents of the globe at prestigious dance programmes including Festival of India in South Korea, Argentina to name a few.
A multi-dimensional personality, Ranjana’s interests also include theatre, painting and choreography. has also produced and directed a number of ballets depicting modern and mythological themes. Her artistically rich background has led her to explore other creative expressions such as authoring a book “Odissi, The Dance Divine”. A successful film producer, researcher and scriptwriter, she has also produced many television serials and documentaries that have been highly appreciated by the audience.
Gaiety, grace and strength are the hall-mark of Ranjana’s performances which bear the signature of a distinctive style because of her extensive training in Chhau, Kathak and Manipuri. These have eriched her talent in blending the traditional with the contemporary, and her imagery, which is both innovative and individualistic, has made her work all the more appealing to the audiences. Her committment towards creating cultural awareness through lec-dems has taken her to rural and semi rural regions of the country.
Ranjana is the moving spirit behind ‘Utsav-Ranjana’s Odissi Dance Academy’ established in 1987 where she uses her experience for grooming and teaching young children in Odissi dance and music in the Guru Shishya Parampara. One such disciple is Anika Tandon of 11 years, a student of Modern School, Barakhamba Road, Delhi who has been learning the art of Odissi dance from Utsav for the last seven years. She has learnt the nuances and techniques of the divine art from her Guru, whose constant motivation and encouragement has groomed her into one of the most promising disciples. Odissi has immensely helped Anika in imbibing attributes like self-confidence, determination and a disciplined persona. She has to her credit many outstanding performances and her many accolades and awards stand testimony to her talent. Dance has been an integral part of Anika’s life.

The renowned Kathak exponent, Smt Shovana Narayan (Padmashree), as Chief Guest will light the ceremonial lamp and bless Anika. Guests of Honour on the occasion will be Shri Pranav Khullar, Jt Secretary, Ministry for Culture, Government of India and Shri. Rishi Vashisht, Deputy Director, Centre for Cultural Resources & Training, New Delhi.
