Event Description : "Pictorial Exposition" an art show by Swapan Bhandary & Deeptio Gupta.
There will be 30 paintings on display mostly painted in acrylic on canvas and reverse on acrylic sheet .
Swapan Bhandary, an alumnus of Santiniketan and student of K.G. Subramanyan, has been practicing art for many years with his first solo exhibition held at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, in 1986. The latest exhibition includes a series on birds, painting them larger than life, and juxtaposing them with city architecture to communicate that the earth is facing a lot of environmental concerns.
"The birds have been represented as raising voice against the indifferent acts of people living in city, and sometimes, they just appear as symbols of love, dream and freedom," says Bhandary.
Deepti Gupta, an alumnus of College of Art, New Delhi, is practicing for the last few years. She has been selected for an artists’ residency programme recently. She has exhibited her paintings in various group shows at reputed art galleries with eminent Indian artists in Delhi and Singapore.
Her works on display will be a body of paintings done on acrylic on canvas with refreshing and vibrant colours. She first creates her compositions on computer for offering particular visual effects and later to render in acrylic on canvas or acrylic sheet . She treats themes pictorially. They are not a mere representation of reality. "My subjects are based on cows, birds and forms which have an influence of Indian miniature painting," says Gupta.
