Event Description: An Die Musik: An Ode to Music

Delhi’s premier performing choir, The Capital City Minstrels, will be ushering in the Christmas season through their winter concert - “An die Musik – An Ode to Music.” Conducted by Nise Meruno and assistant conductor, Riddhiman Dutta, the choir will celebrate the gift of music, showcasing diverse choral music styles; and ring in the holiday season with contemporary and classic Christmas songs.
The 'Gift of Music' is something we must all cherish and appreciate. This concert celebrates that in the first segment—a tapestry of choral Music showcasing its power and diversity. The second segment will feature carols, spreading Christmas cheer," says CCM’s conductor Nise Meruno.
The selection will begin a range of classical and contemporary pieces including Franz Schubert’s popular An Die Musik, the award-winning 1988 hit “Let the River Run” by singer-songwriter Carly Simon, and Moses Hogan’s powerful spiritual “Hear My Prayer”. The repertoire will then transition into Christmas fare, including classic carols “O Come, O Come Emmanuel”, “O Come, All Ye Faithful”; the nostalgic “Somewhere in my memory” by John Williams from the film soundtrack of Home Alone; “Jingle Bells Calypso,” a Caribbean twist to the popular Christmas song by Leo M. Teller; and a rousing arrangement of “O Holy Night” by Nise Meruno.

About The Capital City Minstrels
The Capital City Minstrels comprises people of all ages and nationalities and from all walks of life – students, musicians, doctors, lawyers, architects, teachers, development professionals, corporate executives, diplomats and more. Founded in 1994 in New Delhi by Zohra Shaw, CCM has since performed more than 400 concerts at prestigious venues around Delhi, various destinations in India and Europe, entertaining audiences with a wide repertoire - from the earliest choral music to the entire spectrum of western classical music; opera, ballads, folk songs, Broadway tunes, rock, pop, jazz, as well as choral arrangements of Indian music. The choir has performed at embassies, concert halls, auditoriums, cathedrals, historic monuments and at Government of India events, including performances for the President of India. CCM has collaborated with international choirs like Le Beau Soleil from Switzerland, the Mixed Voices from Germany, the Yale Schola Cantorum and Juilliard415. The choir has done three European tours, the most recent in June 2018 in Edinburgh, Belfast, and London.
Conductors from across the world have helmed CCM over the years, each leaving their mark on this diverse group. It has been 31 years and the group has grown from 10 members to 60 choristers, ranging in age, profession, and nationality. A secular, international group, CCM has stayed together because of the music, the community, and the support of music lovers in the city.
As part of its social outreach programme, CCM performs at schools, hospitals, shelters, and other places where they can share the joy of music with residents, patients, and children. The group recently sang at Kalawati Hospital, Shanti Avedna Ashram, and The Blind Relief Association in Delhi as a part of this initiative. In early May this year, the choir sang at The Lawrence School, Sanawar, and conducted a choral music workshop for the students.
