The film chronicles the pioneering life of social reformer and educationist Jyotirao Phule. Set in 19th century Maharashtra, the film explores the far-reaching effects and influence of the work of Phule and his wife, Savitribai Phule, in making education accessible to women of the period and raising a powerful voice against casteist oppression. A restored classic.
