Ganesa Natyalaya, a prominent Bharatanatyam dance institution presents NIMAGNA as part of a year-long golden jubilee celebration, Swarna Saroja. The 75 minutes performance is a tribute to its founder Guru Saroja Vaidyanathan on her birth anniversary in honour of the Bharatanatyam legacy she has built. NIMAGNA is a choreography of Rama Vaidyanathan which she will perform along with an ensemble of 25 dancers of Ganesa Natyalaya. The presentation explores the multitude of ways of experiencing a spiritual Rasa or emotion. The performance aims to immerse both dancers and spectators in a state of ‘Nimagna’, elevating the human soul to great heights of aesthetic bliss. Ancient Indian texts highlight how dance can become an immersive experience for everyone involved.
Ganesa Natyalaya, founded by Guru Dr. Saroja Vaidyanathan with a small student body in 1974, has grown significantly over the last 50 years and now has both Indian and international students enrolled. Today, the institution is known for its in-depth training in performing and creating mesmerizing Bharatanatyam dance productions not only in the capital, Delhi, but across the globe. With over 2000 students who have trained here, over 30 of the disciples have gone on to setup their own institutions/schools of Bharatanatyam in affiliation with the Natyalaya, half of which are overseas.
