Event Description: Shubhra Chaturvedi's Solo Art Exhibition "Khud se Roohbarooh" (soul to soul with self)
The Urdu word Roohbarooh, meaning "coming face-to-face," or in this case, soul-to-soul, encapsulates the essence of Shubhra's journey, a reflective engagement with her own experiences and the turbulent socio-political landscape of our times. These works, spanning from 2018 to the present, are a powerful response to the cultural, social, and political upheavals that have shaped our world in recent years.
Shubhra's artistic journey began to take a new direction in the years 2018-2019, a period marked by deep introspection and heightened awareness. Her work is an exploration of conflict—both within herself and in the external world—and a visual articulation of the societal fractures that have stirred her consciousness. The resulting pieces are socially aware, emotionally raw, and intellectually stimulating, tackling issues that resonate on both micro and macro levels.
"This collection is a reflection on my life, my environment, my principles, and my politics," Shubhra explains. "It is as much a dialogue with myself as it is with the world. My work acknowledges the pain, yet it also celebrates the beauty and gratitude I find in life."
Executed with a variety of materials including oil, acrylic, mixed media on canvas, and paper pulp on paper, Shubhra’s work remains in a continuous state of exploration and discovery. Each piece serves as a bridge between her inner world and the ever-changing landscape of the external world, inviting viewers to confront their truths, fears, and hopes.
Roohbarooh is an invitation to come soul to soul with oneself and the world, to engage in the discomfort of reflection, and to emerge with a deeper understanding of the self and society. The exhibition is open to the public at Bikaner House from 21st to 26th September 2024.
