"Khusrau darya prem ka ulti waaki dhaar
Jo utra so doob gaya jo dooba so paar"
Oh Khusrau the river of love runs in strange ways
One who jumps into it drowns and those who drown get across....
~ Khwaja Amir Khusrau
On the auspicious occasion of the annual Urs (literal meaning union/wedding) which is the death anniversary of Sufi saints we invite you for the annual Urs celebrations of the legendary Sufi and patron saint of Delhi Khawaja Hazarat Nizamuddin Auliya....the Mehboob-e-Ilaahi at the saint's dargah (shrine or tomb).
The nearly 7 centuries old village of Nizamuddin Basti that sprung around the Saint's shrine will come alive with the soulful words and mellifluous music created by the great poet Khusrau kept alive by his band of 'Qawwal Bachchas' (Qawwali Singers) which will ring out on Sat evening to celebrate the joyous memory of the Saint's death and union with his beloved 'God'....a beautiful tradition world-over at 'Sufi Shrines/Dargahs'
DBF in association with the 'Dargah Nizamuddin Aulia Trust' brings to you this unique 'Rasa' of our lovely city....delving deep into this living tradition that celebrates the Saint's life and celebrates the universal brotherhood of communities irrespective of religion....
HIGHLIGHTS:
1- We share tales of the life & times of the Saint and his favourite disciple Amir Khusrau and his 'Khwaja Ji' and about the genesis of this unique festival.
2- We will then join the musical proceedings of Qawwals (Sufi Qawwali Singers) inside the Dargah and savour the robust tunes of the Harmonium Tabla & Dhol as they ring out in the skies....singing special 'Qawwalis'....verses of eternal love
3- All of us will get a special opportunity to offer flowers & 'chaddars' at the Dargah.
4- We will also savour a special surprise!!!
THE COMPLETE EVENT WILL BE CONDUCTED IN ENGLISH & SOME BITS OF HINDUSTANI/PERSIAN
