Event Description: Inspired by the breathtaking beauty of her home and all the seasons of the valley, come enjoy this solo exhibition of impasto oils on canvas by Neerja Kaul Kalia.

Kashmir means different things for different generations. For Neerja, who was born and brought up in Kashmir in an era when popular Bollywood movies brought alive the magic of the paradise to the outside world, life was simple with no strife. The mountains were visible from home and the vibrant hues of the flowers, the fruits, the skies and the clouds probably left a deep mark on the mind. These childhood impressions have surely manifested into these paintings infused with colors of life. For Neerja every painting has a memory associated with it. and  Kashmir is a breath of fresh air that she associates with peace, hope and faith.

The landscapes are mostly done in oils and impasto on canvas and canvas board. It took her nearly  8 years to complete this collection of 35 paintings on display.  The landscapes vary by size ranging from 6x4 ft to the smallest of about 2x 1/2 ft.  The collection also includes a few paintings in Black and white magic.

Neerja is a multi-faceted personality. A  teacher, an advertising and marketing professional, a TV producer and an author of children's stories. She was a Sunday painter till 2012 and then she found succour in painting and dabbling in colors on canvas became therapeutic. It was like meditation for her. It is the same relaxation that one feels looking at the paintings that come alive when you peer at them. The brooks start rustling, the flowers start blooming and one can smell the flowers poppies or daffodils and feel the snow chill as one is transported to the paradise through these visual images.

She has showcased her work at several exhibitions including solo shows at Hotel Taj Palace New Delhi, Marriott Courtyard and Epicenter in Gurgaon.  Her work adorns several homes and offices in India and abroad. She cannot think of a day when she has not picked up the brush and at present her home doubles up as her studio with canvasas and paints all across giving you an ethereal feel.
