Hidden Gem Collective, A Feroza Aslam Retrospective

Curated by Davangi Pathak and Gaurav Kumar

After two decades, the Showcase works of Ms Feroza Aslam, a contemporary senior Indian woman artist. She is deeply inspired by the poetries - Geetanjali & Rumi. The protagonists of Feroza's work were usually women, and over time, they became the central theme of her work. In an interview with The Financial Express, she said "I find women more interesting than men. I honestly feel women play a bigger role in life". Her paintings also covered a wide range of subjects from natural landscapes to social issues, like her contemporaries, B. Prabha, Arpana Caur & Anjolie Ela Menon. Feroza's sand work on canvas was purely an outcome of her experimentation with the medium.
Ms Aslam's perseverance as a non-commercial artist collapses a distinction between fine art and domestic art practices. The collection displayed in her solo show at AIFACS gallery and her archives in the publication were mindfully curated as "Hidden Gem Collective". The readers, through her archives, get glimpses of Feroza's journey as a woman, artist and more importantly as a Human. HGC is also a critique and an observation of the current practices in the Indian art world often referred to as MARKET, questioning the "Passion for Collection". HGC will provide a discourse to the audience to delve into an immersive experience, hence reviving the practice of art appreciation & collection.
