Decameron /The Decameron
(Drama, Comedy/ Italy/ Italian/1971/106 mins)
An anthology film based on the 14th century allegory by Giovanni Boccaccio, ‘Il Decameron.’ A series of stories revolving around an aspiring painter, nuns, a gardener, a priest and a husband. It is the first film of Pasolini's ‘Trilogy of Life’, the others being ‘The Canterbury Tales’ and ‘Arabian Nights’. Each film was an adaptation of a different piece of classical literature. The film was entered into the 21st Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the 'Silver Bear Extraordinary Jury Prize'.
Introduction of the film by Murtaza Ali Khan, award-winning Film & TV critic and journalist.
Background: Celebrating 100 years of Pier Paolo Pasolini - Italian poet, filmmaker, writer and intellectual who also distinguished himself as a journalist, novelist, translator, playwright, visual artist and actor.
