Event Description:
Delhi Blue Pottery Trust presents TerraFest 2022

Delhi blue pottery trust is organising a six day terracotta festival to showcase the work of the traditional potters from all over the country.

The festival is organised to promote and encourage the indigenous artists, who is struggling to carry on.

The viewing public will have a wide variety of products to choose from. Apart from products for the festive season, an array of decorative and utilitarian products will also be available.

Terrafest, a one-of-its kind event, initiated by Delhi Blue Pottery Trust, brings together the finest terracotta artisans from all over the country. It provides a platform for them to showcase a range of earthenware, to market not only products but also skills. It’s an occasion where they interact with the many members of the general public who appreciate their work. It also provides an opportunity for them to interact with each other, sharing techniques and ideas.

This year the following states will be represented by the terracotta artists, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Odisha and Tamilnadu.
Faced with competition from plastic and metal ware, terracotta is fighting for survival. Traditional artisans are finding it more and more difficult to live above subsistence level. Some have managed to take the help of design development programs, and are producing works of extraordinary beauty. How-ever neither the money nor the recognition comes close to balancing the hard work, and expertise that goes into the making of the products.  It is not surprising that the younger generations, inheritors of this vast knowledge and almost intuitive skill are discouraged; reluctant to take up the mantle.

By creating opportunities such as the Terrafest, the Trust has achieved some amount of success. By renewing the possibility of a via media for the sale of terracotta products, the Trust hopes it can persuade a new generation of artisans to emerge from within the fold, by helping them earn a livelihood, since it’s they who can keep this wonderful art and craft alive.
