Event Description:Convivencia and Religious Tolerance by Arvind Sharma, historiador
With a long academic career and more than twenty publications, Arvind Sharma is one of the greatest current experts in comparative religions. In this conference, he will reflect on the concepts of tolerance and religious coexistence from a historical perspective, emphasizing the period of Muslim presence in the Iberian Peninsula. In his most recent book, Religious Tolerance: A History, he exposes the suggestive idea that it was precisely in the Iberian Peninsula and in India, the other periphery of the Muslim world, where Islam knew how to articulate plural and tolerant societies with other beliefs, thus becoming a religion of peace and coexistence. Today, at the peak of all kinds of dogmatisms, Professor Arvind Sharma can offer us essential keys to understand our present upheaval.
