Event Description: The Embassy of Mexico in India and Instituto Cervantes are pleased to invite you to Essays on Anonymity, a workshop by Toztli Abril de Dios, for professionals and enthusiasts of theatre, interpretation and visual arts.
About the workshop: Essays on Anonymity is an intensive pedagogical and multi-disciplinary project that positions the body as the mainline of research.
This workshop will provide creative tools from the theatre of object/figure/ subject movement while dealing with the notions of anonymity, identity and togetherness. In a three hours session, the participants will explore the diversity of games that arise from correspondences between bodies/objects/materials and the living and the inert.
About Toztli Abril de Dios: Graduated from the Mexican Dance Academy, the National School of Theater Arts and the National School of Puppet Arts located in Charleville-Mézières, France. In Europe she has worked with several companies linked to the Contemporary Puppet; in France with the Collective “Grand Réservoir”, “Théâtre Elabore” and the Cie Z Machine of Netty Radvanyi, in Belgium with the Tof Théâtre, Agnès Limbos and Karyatides, in Germany with Frank Soehnle and in the United Kingdom with Gavin Glover, National Theater of Scotland and Ramesh Meyyappan.
In Mexico, her work ranges from the construction and animation of figures, materials and objects, to pedagogy around the Theater of Figures. She has also participated as an interpreter in creations of companies such as Theatrical Machine and Shadow Line Theater. She is currently working on research around how to link her artistic work to social projects, inviting the participation and reflection of new narratives that represent the communities with which she works. On the other hand, she is interested in investigating various possibilities of scenic representation that are not limited to spaces predestined to the theatre.
Toztli Abril de Dios is in India at the invitation of The Pocket Company to be an artist-in-residence for the annual festival of their project drift - Dharamshala International & Residential Festival for Theatre, with the support of the National Fund for Culture and the Arts (FONCA) and the Embassy of Mexico.
