Event Description: Shoonya presents Kalidasa's Meghdoot, Hindi Play
Meghdoot, written by world-renowned Sanskrit poet Kalidasa, is an exceptional work in the field of poetry. A common question that arises is that why Shoonya, a theatre group, is staging Meghdoot when basically it is a poem and not a regular drama? The reason is that Meghdoot is not only known for its Rhythm, Lyricism and amazing beauty of nature, it is also true that it has a lot of elements of Indian Natya-Shashtra hidden within it. Whenever one thinks about acting in its purest form, which includes elements like that of body language, speech and feel of an actor, Meghdoot does full justice in drawing the attention of the audience. The acting side of Meghdoot is the reason which attracted Shoonya.
The second most important thing is that India’s culture and history are known for its love of nature, where nature and man's bond is unbreakable, where there are harmony and love in the environment. Where there is no snooping and unnecessary intrusion. Where there is a feeling of respect and sacrifice for others and a sense of friendship and trust.
At a time where humanity is getting bleak, where there is a disconnect in relationships, and wide distance from nature, where the peace of music is lost somewhere, and a commotion dominates the whole society… We are in desperate need of Meghdoot.
