Event Description: Agni Aur Barkha, Hindi Play

Girish Karnad’s ‘Agni Aur Barkha’ narrates the insidious tales of various human characters. Pravasu performs the fire sacrifice for seven years to gratify the gods and get rains for the parched land. His powerful position of the Chief Priest of the sacrifice creates animosity within his own family. It is a complex, entangled and fervent tale of love, lust and sacrifice. It brings alive the age-old myth through its multifaceted characters. Several parallel narratives and play within a play (garbha natak) make the story even more interesting. The ingenious cultural elements in the austerely designed set further add to the grandeur.
