Event Description: Hide and Seek, A Contemporary Landscape Painting Exhibition by Supriya Sathe

Believed to have originated from a Greek game called "apodidraskinda", Hide & Seek was first described by the second-century Greek writer Julius Pollux.  It was played just as children play today, & while we may be familiar with the popular children’s game; we perhaps fail to notice that nature is rather adept at it! 

Supriya Sathe weaves her illusory world, on occasion bringing all her glory to the fore in a flash of light, only to disappear into dark shadows again. One moment she peeks out meekly from behind a tree, the next unabashedly bestows her flowers upon us in sheer delight. Why even babies instinctively play “hide and seek” with their beloved mothers’ faces with a gurgling Peek a boo!

Supriya’s art explores this playful albeit elusive side to nature in her latest collection. She enjoys the use of contrast- the subtle paired with the obvious, the light calling to the dark, the white standing tall midst a burst of colour. Her landscapes appear natural enough to fit right into the real world despite being purely imaginary; alien yet strikingly familiar.  

She tries to give tangible and static form to a single moment she envisions within the borderless and dynamic world that surrounds us. Her work shines on nature’s many faces and teases you to seek out what may be well-hidden in the deep reaches of its soul.

She finds inspiration in the breathtaking vistas she discovers during her travels, be it strolling along beaches of India or hiking through the trails of Norway.
