Event Description: Through the Prism of Collage, a Solo Art Exhibition by Sailesh Sanghavi

(THROUGH THE PRISM OF COLLAGE)
Throughout his long creative journey, the artist has experimented with many mediums, fearlessly exploring new vistas, eager to search out his identity as an artist. After many trials, he decided on collage as the perfect medium to interpret the many-hued lives of the ordinary folks.

Collage, traditionally, is crafted on a paper surface, with pieces of paper glued on it. Sometimes other experimental materials, like cloth, threads, etc. are used too. Sailesh Sanghvi first worked purely with paper collages with acrylic colour on board, with acrylic colours. Venturing further into the medium, he worked with canvas on canvas, only retaining the brilliant, purity of acrylic colours. Collage is used here like a prism, breaking up the work into different colours. The work is built piece by piece, layering the canvas surface with cut and painted canvas pieces. This type of work not only requires infinite patience but also a sharp and well-defined sense of aesthetics. As the works are on a monumental scale, the artist may take months to complete a work. Some of the works here were lovingly crafted through a span of many months. Yes, there is a strong element of craft in making a collage!

The art-works created are like a palimpsest painting, depicting a broad panoramic view, in many levels of perspective, with many characters engaged in numerous varied activities.  These emotionally charged works are a true depiction of the folk-life; colourful, yet imbued with inner vitality, truth of interpretation of both inner life and outer behaviour.

Journey In Art
The upcoming exhibition of Sailesh Sanghvi at the Visual Arts Gallery of the India Habitat Center, Delhi features a Collection of Abstract Works and Collages both in acrylic canvas and paper.
The most unique feature of the exhibition is the scale of both the abstract paintings and collages which are large and wherein the imagery speaks for itself in a clean, elegant and straightforward manner which makes it a viewer's delight as he travels on the journey with the artist celebrating a series of themes with strong emphasis on environment, nature, memories and daily life thus affecting each one of us.
The Collage has been a popular art form and continues to inspire artists around the World. Sailesh's collages both acrylic on canvas and paper are masterpieces that stand out for their minute attention to detail in evocatively capturing the theme and visually stimulating for the range of colours and textures used resulting in an impressive creation that's powerful than the sum of its components going onto conveying a beautiful story.

This minute attention leads onto the large abstract works in different shapes bringing out the complexities of a thinking mind and its dialogue through art. Sailesh in this show celebrates art cutting across age barriers and creating works that will have a different appeal for viewers of all ages and invite them for having a dialogue with themselves and therein lies the beauty of art.
