Deception. Murder. Mystery. This first ever Indian adaptation of Agatha Christie’s accomplished detective novel, Towards Zero, finds friends and family members gathered together in a lonely cliff-perched seaside house turning into unsuspecting victims for a murderous psychopath. This play seeks to unravel a crime that has been long in the making and planned to the minutest detail. Murder thus becomes not the beginning but a culmination of many different circumstances converging ‘Towards Zero’. This whodunit, built on a double deception turning on itself, promises edge-of-the-seat thrills in its progress to the revealing climax.
Hailed by UK’s Times Literary Supplement for ‘Masterly storytelling’, this thriller has been produced for the big screen in English (1995) and in French (2007), adapted by ITV in 2007 as an episode in Miss Marple series and by the BBC as a four part Radio Play in 2010.
RENU S. CHOPRA’s English adaptation of Agatha Christie’s novel Towards Zero is set in early 1990’s in India’s most dramatically unexplored region – the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, the infamous Kalapaani of the past.
Dramatech is a 35-year-old group with 45 productions to its credit. Our last play was The Front Page. Accomplished actor-director Renu S. Chopra has previously directed two hit English plays for Dramatech- Ray Cooney’s Run for your Wife and Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice.
