Event Description : Carpet Stories from the Ancient Silk Road, by Danny Mehra

Rare tribal rugs from nomadic tents and villages of Central Asia and the Caucasus mountains

A collection of mystical 19th and early 20th century tribal weavings from Iran, Iraq, Syria, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Dagestan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan,
Turkmenistan and various Kurdish enclaves. The ethnographic context in which these carpets were made is now nearly extinct. Sociopolitical changes, economic forces and wars have permanently changed the tribal way of life. This collection offers a rare glimpse into precious nomadic traditions from a bygone era!

Danny Mehra has been collecting unusual tribal carpets as a passionate hobby for over 25 years. He searches for "perfect imperfection" - visually striking features that set his carpets apart from commercial products. Several examples from his collection have been exhibited in the US, Europe and India and featured in over 50 press stories. Recent coverage includes Architectural Digest, India Today, Economic Times, Hindu, Hindustan Times, Indian Express, Telegraph, Times of India, Radio Mirchi and the Colours of India show on Rajya Sabha TV.
