Event Description : Mahesh Dattani's Tara, one of his earliest plays, the production of which was initially directed by him and which I saw in Bangalore many years ago, is being revived by us. Katyayani & Deevya Arora presents the play, which is the story of siblings, a boy and a girl, within a dysfunctional family.
The play, set in the 90s, is still relevant, with its issues of gender discrimination and disability. Replete with wry humour, its central character, Tara, a physically challenged girl, is being played by Deeviya, an award winning, actor who is perhaps India's first cerebral palsy afflicted professional actor.
Wheelchair bound, she has not allowed her illness to overcome her talent or spirit. She has worked with several celebrity actors, including the late Tom Alter, who specially wrote a play for her and starred in it with her.
