Event Description : TALK : IHC-ILF Samanvay Bimonthly Series on Modern Classics of Indian Literature.
Vamshavriksha by S. L. Bhyrappa is a modern Kannada classic. Its enthusiastic reception in 1965 coincided with the publication of U.R. Ananthamurthy’s novel Samskara, which acquired a cult status over the years. Both texts have led to much churning in Kannada language and literature, adapted into National award winning films, and have enriched the charged Kannada milieu of the 70s. Three seminal voices take a look at these texts, related literary/cultural influences on them and out of them & and much more:
Panellists: Dr. T.S. Satyanath, Professor of Comparative Literature, Delhi University, Rashmi Doraiswamy, Film scholar and culture critic, Jamia Millia Islamia and Prof. Rita Kothari, translator and literary theorist, Ashoka University.
