Event Description : THEATRE : Treasure Art Association Presents 'Tughlaq' Hindi Play
Tughlaq, written by Girish Karnad, is a political allegory. The play is at once both historical and contemporary, it’s modern and universal in its appeal.
The play depicts him a man of ideals having a grand vision but his reign was an abject failure. His rule that began with ideals of a unified India soon vitiated into anarchy.
The series of his failed uncanny governance ideas made his beloved ones commemorated him as “Mad Mohammad” and which also brought deep disillusionment and alienation in him which he never admitted.
Some of the secondary characters represents a section of those astute people who identify and exploit the flaws in every law so that they can gain maximum out of it.
The play presents Tughlaq a thinker who sets out with a perspective of ‘creating a better world for everyone’, but ironically enough ended as ‘Demented & Tyrant Ruler’
Design and Direction : Joy Maisnam
