The first film to be made in Sanskrit, it is set in 8th century Kerala. The film is based on the life of Adi Shankaracharya, the renowned Advaita Vedanta (Monism) philosopher who is attributed with over 300 Sanskrit texts and has established a series of religious sites at Badrinath, Puri, Dwarka and Sringeri. The film opens with Shankara as a boy inducted to Brahminical rituals and his subsequent interest in philosophy to try and understand the mysteries of life and death.
