Event Description : TALK "Engaging with Urban Informality through Community Architecture" by Swati Janu.
Architecture and Society Series.
Within the proliferating cities of the global South, innumerable informal cities have grown, taking in migrants and refugees unable to find affordable housing in the ‘planned’ city. These transient cities have been built by the residents themselves. Most of them exist in an ephemeral state due to insecurity of land tenure and 'illegality'. What is the role and relevance of an architect where more than half of the city is designed and built by the people themselves? The talk will discuss this through a few recent community driven and interdisciplinary design projects initiated by the speaker within the city of Delhi.
Chair: M.N. Ashish Ganju, architect and teacher.
Organized by : Greha Delhi and Epistle Communications
