Event Description :
TALK "Two Years of RERA – Where Are We?"

In last decade real estate developers have defaulted in completion timelines, delivered sub-standard quality, increased price and super area. This has resulted in many violent protests and legal battles in the courtroom. Poor corporate governance standards in the industry have resulted in trust deficit amongst the home buyers. In 2016 the government of India finally came up with a regulator in the real estate sector through the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Act (RERA). This year we would be celebrating the second year of implementation of this act. Key questions that need to be answered in this context are Has this Act achieved its stated objectives? There is pressure on various state governments to dilute this Act or is it too early to pass any judgment regarding its success? Why is there disparity in the states when it comes to the implementation? Are states with higher Gross Domestic State Product faring better compared to others that aren’t?

These and some more questions will be the focus of the panel discussion

Panelists will include Developer, home buyer representative, state RERA chiefs and lawyers

Chair: Prof. Anupam Saxena, Associate Dean & Director, School of Real Estate

Collaboration: RICS School of Built Environment, Amity University
