Included in the list of 100 greatest Indian films of all time, John Abraham’s first Tamil film is a satire on the superstition narrated through a donkey that strays into an upper caste Brahmin village. The donkey is adopted as a pet by Prof. Narayanswami (Srinivasan). Inspired by Robert Bresson’s immortal Au Hazard Balthazar, Abraham uses the verses of Tamil poet Subramania Bharati to create a parable set against the orthodoxies and superstitions of a Brahmin village community
