It explores through images, graphics and narratives, the beliefs, histories, traditions, arts, and cultures of India that emanate from Ganga – as a river and a Goddess. With an agglomeration of artistic expressions ranging from the classical to vernacular folk and popular creative traditions from contemporary settings, the display illustrates the unbroken continuity of Ganga’s veneration and her role in the making of the region’s diverse and rich cultural geography. The exhibition is laid out in three main themes - Heaven (Svarg), Earth (Prithvi), and Underworld (Patal) - the three worlds of the Indian cosmology in which the Ganga flows.
