Event Description : ART EXHIBITION “Prayag - The Inner Journey” solo show by Yoga Guru Bharat Thakur
The artist will be showcasing three major bodies of work; his self portraits, portraits of babas and sculptures. At first glance artworks may seem as distinct from each other but he has taken inspiration from his spiritual lineage of Aghora and Tantra , both of which are known to celebrate the conscious engagement with sensory phenomena and the primal elements of nature.
In his revelatory self portrait series ‘Aham’, one can see the artist turns an intense and piercing gaze inward, inspired by the paradigms of Aghora as well as Tantra. These portraits are realistic and draw the viewer in with their hyper real likeness and the sheer force of the grotesque , which makes the viewer take a step back and introspect.
In this series Bharat is delving deep into the mind and soul of man to cull into the dark recesses to reveal what is yet unknown. In the paintings on the Aghori babas , Bharat’s intimacy with the subject and his unbridled passion and energy can be seen in his unique approach form, colours and textures. The collection reflects most of his turbulent and roller-coaster life which is about exploring different dimensions and how to bring about something that only a sculpture or an installation can achieve. He is going to be presenting a totally different kind of sculpture- kinetic sculpture.
As a multidimensional artist, he works with sculpture , installations and a wide variety of painting mediums . Bharat likes to and his own expression , untethered and unbound by convention. For him no medium is too challenging and no subject is beyond contemplation.
Bharat Thakur established his own brand of yoga in 1999 called “Bharat Thakur Artistic Yoga” which is a unique form of yoga that seamlessly integrates modern physiological research and ancient wisdom of the sages. Today 'Bharat Thakur Artistic Yoga' is world famous with millions of practitioners and hundreds of yoga studios all over the world. His art is one of the most sensitive and vibrant expressions of his spiritual dimension and his paintings are a visual manifestation of this consciousness that springs straight from the soul.
