Dastan-e-Chouboli This dastan is an adaptation of Vijaydan Detha's version of the Rajasthani folktale. Princess Chauboli has vowed that she will only marry a man who can make her speak four times in one night. Seventeen times twenty-four princes have tried and failed and are now rotting in the dungeon grinding fodder for horses. A brave and valiant Thakur, one who shoots 108 arrows through his wife's nose-ring every day, wishes to try his luck. What happens to him? How will Chouboli be won? Containing a story within a story within a story, some of them pan India favorites, Chouboli is a funny, bitter, sarcastic and lyrical take on Indian life.- COMEDY
Produced by : Anusha Rizvi
Directed by : Mahmood Farooqui
About Dastangoi : Dastangoi is the art of Urdu storytelling which at its height was popular all across India and could regale commoners and elites alike. The performers were artists and writers rolled into one who left behind over 46000 pages of published fantasies but little less. Inspired by the scholarship of Urdu's greatest living writer S. R. Faruqi, Mahmood began its revival in 2005 and has since then trained dozens of other Dastangos, staged over a thousand shows all around the world and has composed over a dozen modern Dastans for the genre. With all the innovations the he and his team have spearheaded a virtually new genre of performance and a new kind of writing for the stage has emerged in our times.
About The Director,
Mahmood Farooqui is an award winning writer and an award winning performer. He was awarded the Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar by the Sangeet Natak Akademi of the Union Government for his effort in reviving Dastangoi.
