Event Description : ART EXHIBITION "Meandering  Journeys" Photography, Paintings & Sculpture by Renuka Sondhi Gulati and Kaushik Amruthur

Meandering Journeys
The exhibition brings together the painter and sculptor Renuka Sondhi Gulati with the photographer Kaushik Amruthur. This coalition of New Delhi based Renuka and Kaushik based in California is not simply geographical. Their works traverse multiple thoughts and locales, and in their exhibition enable the viewer the same journey - literal and metaphorical. Renuka’s canvases are explorations of the new-age woman in a new world netted or nestled in the discourses of her gender and human form. Renuka’s work contextualizes the world leading us to Kaushik’s photographs that apparently simplify the complicated world, yet in their linearity, patterned reality, and defined form, reveal the flux of existence, order and disorder.

Kaushik Amruthur is a San Francisco based fine art photographer whose work is featured internationally and throughout the United States. He derives his inspiration from forms, patterns and textures in people, architecture and landscapes. His work here focuses on black and white film, a medium that enhances the patterns and textures reflecting indigenous communities. Kaushik’s photographs reflect unique perspectives of forms
and lines, which converge into images evoking the mythical legends and spirituality of the indigenous cultures who thrive in the Southwestern U.S. and Alaska. If the purpose of art is to render the familiar into the unfamiliar, then Kaushik’s photographs are sheer magnificence.
Renuka Sondhi-Gulati’s oeuvre is art in motion. The fluidity of form in her sculptures, paintings, and installations merge reality with a mythical dimension, a futuristic vision that becomes real just by the fact that it is visible through the artwork. In her art, Renuka weaves a visual bildungsroman that echoes at one level with every person and yet at another level with those whose life has been a trial by fire. Renuka’s canvas is a celebration of the living spirit embodied in the one who creates life- the woman, who endures pain and suffering, yet becomes the bridge to a liberating future. She is a National Senior Fellow and a recipient of International Best Sculpture award at 9th Art Biennale, Malta, 2011. She has exhibited numerous times at both National and International levels. Renuka has traversed miles to reach where her artistic expression need no words. Her works speak for itself.
