Event Description : ART EXHIBITION "Melange II" a group show of drawings, paintings, printmaking & sculptures by various artists.

The Melange II exhibition is a landmark offering to art lovers, featuring artists with impeccable credentials. Being art academics of the rank of professors and contemporary practitioners, these art makers have for the first time taken time off their schedule of teaching and art making to exhibit their works in the capital. A follow-up of the thumping success that their previous exhibition ‘Melange 1’ held at the Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai, earlier this year, the display for the capital’s show consists of a brand new portfolio of artworks that showcase their rich offerings in a format of experienced art making, that is a rarity nowadays.

The band of 10 artists on display consists of leading academics such as Shrikant Lalasaheb Kadam whose works bear a basic neatness in the mould of a stylistic patterning. Another senior art maker, this time from Nagpur’s prestigious art institution, eulogizes the monochrome palette with its dignified but gripping empasis. An offering in the abstract genre by artist Seema Gondane from the alumni of the JJ School of Art explores the genre to create a metaphor in colours instead of the pen and ink. Trained under the same roof is artist Swati Sabale, who alludes to the domestic undercurrent of life in her criss-crossing of lines and thread-like strokes, for stressing the theme of subjectivity through art.

From another prominent art hub, namely Nagpur, one can savour the works of Sanjay Ramchandra Jathar who picks up the formations of geometry to make forms that negotiate the space with even keel formality. The choice of colours plays a breathtaking role in the works of Kishore Digambarrao Ingale of the Govt College of Art and Design, Nagpur. Though the first impression is that of grandeur, the subdued monochromatic tones create a deep-set narrative as well.

In the works of artist Anand Shende his evergreen hues and graphic forms of happy couples interweaving locked arms holding a tea cup and kettle, representing domesticity, one can enjoy the intricacies of a playful palette. The sole drawing exhibitor Ramchandra Pokale, uses the mundane tea stall helper to take human concerns to a richer platform.

The collective of sculptors for this showing are no less praiseworthy. Artist Sachin Choudhury links fluidity with solidity by emphasizing the contours on the wooden surface. Similarly, the contrasting themes of artist Pradeep Kamble has emotional depth as the faces depict metro life in its stark contours, while his works recalling a time of innocence and togetherness.

A novel addition is a glass collage by artist Ajit Choudhury whose compartmented miniatures depicting cityscapes is a futuristic take on art trends to be watched for,

All in all, the current showing is a start point of a countrywide exhibition calendar by this unique band of art makers-cum-academics whose inputs, are rewriting the norms of exhibiting art, through their unique venture.
