Event Description
Alliance Française de Delhi in association with Jindal Global University and Apne Aap presents "Simone De Beauvoir in[Debate]#1: From Existentialism to Feminism"

Written in 1949, The Second Sex of Simone de Beauvoir is undoubtedly one of the most theoretically and politically influential books of the last century. As such, for many Simone de Beauvoir is more than an iconic figure of contemporary feminism. She is also as a place in the pantheon of great thinkers of 20th century.
Surely an assessment of Simone de Beauvoir’s life and thought in the intellectual panorama of twentieth-century and its impact on the social and political ideas and movements is a worthy topic for academic consideration. A woman philosopher. This was the very essence of Simone de Beauvoir, as in the act of thinking, writing and struggling as a woman she found her identity and scope in life. And her writings provide a key to understanding her life and commitment and to evaluating her legacy today, nearly 33 years after her death. This one-day conference aims to provide a better perception of Simone de Beauvoir with participants and panelists from a variety of disciplines that range from literature to gender studies, from philosophy to social sciences, offering a multidisciplinary and multi-dimensional overview on the life and the works of Simone de Beauvoir.
