SHOP & FOOD : Dastkar presents "
Inside & Outside - The Home Bazaar"

This August, Dastkar is bringing an exclusive exhibition of handcrafted items for your home: Inside & Outside - The Home Bazaar. DASTKAR has been organising monthly events, each with their own distinctive theme and character, with new participants and products every month, showcasing India's diverse craft heritage.

The Bazaar will feature over 70 craft groups, NGOs, artisans and designers from all over India with a vibrant mix of handmade home decor & lifestyle accessories, home furnishings & garden decor. Skills and products will range from wonderful handloom weaves, embroideries, and block prints to centuries old traditions of marble inlay and dhokra metal craft or Gond and Madhubani folk art.

"The beauty of handicrafts is that they are fashioned to be both functional and decorative, and that each piece can be distinctive and different. INSIDE- OUTSIDE  reflects this - with products meant for your kitchen, your garden, your bedroom, and your workspace. An added bonus, buying and using them also enriches the lives of their makers." - Says Laila Tyabji, founder of Dastkar

About Dastkar : Dastkar is a private not-for-profit NGO established in 1981, working to support traditional Indian craftspeople, many of them women and village based, with the objective of helping craftspeople regain their place in the economic mainstream, in a country where the craft sector is second only to agriculture in providing employment.

Laila Tyabji, the founder and the face of Dastkar has worked with craftspeople, documenting their art and preparing them for an urban clientele.

Dastkar strongly believes in crafts as a catalytic tool for social and economic empowerment and earning. It is committed to breaking the barriers that separate craftspeople from mainstream urban markets, reviving and revitalizing both the craft and the community. Partnering with Delhi Tourism, it is developing the NATURE BAZAAR venue in Andheria Modh, in partnership with Delhi Tourism, as a hub for crafts, culture and natural products, linking South Delhi and Gurgaon.

Dastkar assists craftspeople through support service activities such as capacity building workshops, skills training, collaborative design innovation and product development; helping them transform traditional skills into products that have contemporary appeal, thereby providing craft communities with a source of permanent employment and sustained earning.

Today the organization works with an ever growing family of more than 350 craft groups and small producers, directly and indirectly affecting the lives of approximately 43,000 artisans from across 22 States of India.

Started in 1981, Dastkar affects the lives of more than 1 lakh artisans every year working with over 600 crafts groups across 29 India States. We strongly believe in crafts as catalytic tool for social and economic empowerment and earning. Dastkar’s role is to help craftspeople find the opportunity, confidence & resources to become self-sufficient. Our Bazaars and Exhibitions provide craftspeople with exposure and direct interaction with the urban customers, enabling them to gauge market trends and customer demands for themselves.
