Event Description : ART EXHIBITION : Delhi Contemporary Art Week
The second edition of Delhi Contemporary Art Week - DCAW, is being organised by 7 Delhi's galleries focusing on contemporary art and bringing together the crème de la crème of Indian and South Asian art under one roof. Spread over a four-day period, DCAW will be interspersed with didactic talks on collecting, handling and installation of art works, walkthroughs and activities for art collectors and children. While the state-sponsored infrastructure has languished somewhat and receded to the background, a silver lining has been offered by private ventures pumping new life-blood into the local art scene. Thanks to these efforts, the creative practitioners in the country can now enjoy alternate pedagogic modalities, channels of support and funding, and access to state-of-the-art spaces and residencies encouraging alternative display practices and contemporary discourses. All this has ensured an intimate, yet flourishing art ecology in the region notwithstanding the global economic downslide and the subsequent plateau. If anything, this has afforded Indian artists, most of whom have utilised the time to push their studio practice into new avenues, to travel and absorb international currents, explore different artistic paradigms and bring them to bear upon their practice, a much-needed reflective moment to recoup, consolidate and acuminate their practice. This resolution phase spells an exciting opportunity for the collector of Indian art, to be a part of the decisive moment that we have come to understand as the contemporary, and determine its future course.
With the works of India and Pakistani artists like Waseem Ahmed, Noor Ali Chagani, Prajjwal Choudhury, Minal Damani, Radhika Agarwala, Mohsin Shafi, Wardha Shabbir on display at DCAW, it is a great time for the collector to flirt with his artistic tastes and proclivities, and acquire emergent bold new works that have never been made before.
