Watercolors are one of the first painting mediums we encounter, often as a child. But it is quite 'old' and venerable, in terms of its lineage. Water based painting dates as far back as the cave paintings of Paleolithic Europe, and it was used for illustrating ancient Egyptian and medieval European manuscripts. It has a long history in East Asian countries in the form of Japanese, Chinese and Korean scroll painting, and have long been in use in countries such as India and Ethiopia.

Watercolors are definitely not a childish medium. Indeed, they require an masterful hand that is sure yet delicate, as mistakes are more permanent. At the same time, watercolors are quite democratic, given the relative affordability of good watercolor paint and paper, in comparison to oil and acrylic paints, and canvas. To point this out is not to posit the superiority of watercolors or any medium, but to observe how watercolors can then potentially lend form to as wide a variety of expressions as its practitioners, as is indicated by this exhibition, where snapshots of a time and place, evocations of a mood or feeling, quite observations of natural details, lively portraits and abstract work, come together. But that should not be surprising; water, after all, takes on the form of its vessel, gives it a fullness where it had been empty before. These watercolors too, give a fullness to the space of experiences, impart a depth to the ephemerality of life.

This Exhibition aims to revive the expression of watercolor as a medium. It  inculcates artists from across the country with their various inspirations from the continuous changing landscapes around him/her. Exhibition space will also become more charged when it will convert into an artist's studio where one can interact and learn from their experiences. These live demonstrations are open for all the students, artists and art lovers.
