Event Description : THEATRE : Painted Tongue Productions in association with Improper Fractions presents 'The Two-Headed Lore' a Devised Theatre piece, six performers bring together folklore, fairy tales and myths with their own lived experiences of gender binaries and all that exists in-between. Directed by Manjari Kaul, Co-directed and conceptualised by Mauraya Sharma, Production Design by Swati S. Mittal Suri.
In the cyclical rhythms of nature when dusk shifts into the blue of the night our inner hidden selves emerge. When the order and decorum of the day gives way to the night, it allows for flights of fantasy and imagination. Several age old stories emerge through this journey which explore the dualities of life- light and shadow, heart and mind, creation and destruction – leading into the essential binaries of masculine and feminine.
The piece was conceptualized by 14 year old, Mauraya Sharma in his quest to find answers to questions around his own identity in a society with fixed, often oppressive gender norms. What makes this performance special is the cast of a mixed age group and their personal takes/ re-takes on stories that have been passed on through generations for hundreds of years.
Cast : Manjari Kaul, Swati S. Mittal Suri, Mauraya Sharma
