Event Description : MELA "Summer Weaves" by Dastkar 

Dastkar Summer Weaves will focus on fabrics like Dabu-the designs are picked from nature and surrounding elements, and then crafted onto wooden blocks, Bagru Print-is a traditional technique of printing with natural colour followed by the chippas of a remote place of Rajasthan, Ajrakh -a unique form of block printed shawls and tiles found in Sindh, Pakistan, known for its colors- blue with red and its complex geometric and floral patterns, Chikankari- traditional embroidery style from Lucknow, a delicate and creative hand embroidery on different textile fabric like muslin, silk, Bagh Print- Is a fabric with copied geometric and floral compositions with vegetable colours of red and black over a white background, Sanganer hand block printing- a hand-block printing technique originating from Sanganer, known for delicate patterns and lines with vibrant colored designs, Ikat- a dying process done with silk or cotton fabrics.
There are also many more prints like Ari and kantha embroidery, Intricate tie-dye techniques of bandhani and shibori, Kota, chanderi, banarasi, jamdani & maheshwari,  kotpad handloom traditions, Kalamkari & pattachitra textiles, Patchwork & applique, Organic cottons in natural vegetable colours and khadi, contemporary garments, dupattas, sarees, kurtas, yardage and home furnishings.
Dastkar founder Laila Tyabji said "Summer is when we all shift from  heavy silks to light summer cottons.  Dastkar's SUMMER WEAVES is the place to stock up on those delightful kotas, chanderis, and muslins for the coming season. It’s important too, to celebrate the handloom weaver and our wonderful  and varied traditions of handloom weaving. With over 15 different regions participating, the bazaar promises to offer a rich diversity of handloom weaves, prints, embroideries and other textile techniques from across India."  

Plus for foodies Summer Weaves is arranging food court with regional culinary delights and refreshing snacks, desserts & beverages.

Summer Weaves will showcase a lively Cultural performance on weekends like Manganiyar performance from Rajasthan, Shibori & Embroidery worshops and handloom weaving demonstration.
