Event Description : DOC FILM "Performing the Goddess: Chapal Bhaduri's Story" in Bengali with English Subtitles followed by discussion.

ILF Samanvay Translations Series - 2018. An evening of performative translations. 

This award-winning documentary follows the life of Chapal Bhaduri, a female impersonator of the Bengali folk theatre, Jatra. It is a tribute to an actor who's spent a lifetime playing women characters on the jatra stage. The screening will be followed by a brief live performance by the legendary Chapal Bhaduri himself playing the various women he enacted and an informal conversation on him and the film with Madhavi Menon, Dhrubho Jyoti and Naveen Kishore.
