EXHIBITION “Faces of AfroEcuadorianity” photography show by Freddy Cevallos

Synopsis: 'Faces of Afro-Ecuadorianity' is the product of a compilation of photographs taken by the Ecuadorian Freddy Antonio Cevallos Angulo, who born in Esmeraldas, a city where majority of population is Afro-descendants, on the shores of the Pacific Ocean, and now he is based in Quito, the capital of Ecuador, an Afro-Ecuadorian visual communicator who has aligned himself with Afro-diasporic social and cultural activism since 2008, since then he
began to compile photographs of the communities he visited during the militancy process of community. The prime intent of this exhibition is to show the image of a community who is hardworking, optimist, fighter, and that contributes significantly to the development of Ecuador; an attempt to highlight in images what the Afro-Ecuadorian people are; that is to say, in the words of the author: "what we are".

About the photographer: Freddy Cevallos was born in Esmeraldas. He studied at "Manuelita Sáenz" school and UNESCO. He did his secondary school studies at "August 5" school of the same city. He is an Engineer in Graphic Design and Visual Communication. He is an Afro-Ecuadorian activist since his adolescence. He currently works for the Office of Public Defender of Ecuador in Quito. As an independent producer, he is the Executive Director of a microenterprise "Encoque visual", an audiovisual production company where documentary and musical productions are made with the aim to strengthen the status of Afro-Ecuadorian people.
