This is a historic colour television production from 1969 conducted by the composer himself starring Peter Pears, for whom Britten wrote the title role in one of the masterpieces of 20th century opera. The fisherman Peter Grimes is ostracized following the death of his apprentice. Despite the friendship of the schoolteacher Ellen Orford, Grimes is pursued by the village, finally descending into madness and inevitable tragedy.
