Event Description : THEATRE : Old World Culture presents Drashta India's "Arsenic & Old Lace" Hindustani Play.

Synopsis : Arsenic and Old Lace was the only play of Kesselring’s to meet with any real success with critics and audiences. He said he got the idea for it by trying to imagine the most fantastically impossible thing his dear old grandmother could do and that turned out to be murder. When it premiered on Broadway in 1941, theatre critic Brooks Atkinson was surprised by the quality of the script. Arsenic and Old Lace opens in the living room of the Gonsalves home, inhabited by five brothers, The Father is chatting with Winner about her other nephew, Anthony, a film critic who is in love with his daughter, Maria. Feerz,  who is rather crazy but harmless, is one of the five brothers. Things begin to unravel as Anthony lifts the lid to the window seat. He discovers a dead body and assumes that Feerz has killed him. But, Winner and Saren tell him another story of elderberry wine. Meanwhile Feerz is down in the cellar digging what he believes is the Panama Canal but is in reality the latest grave. And then another brother Michael arrives, a true maniacal criminal, is accompanied by a Doctor, a plastic surgeon of doubtful character. Several hilarious scenes ensue. Lights blink on and off, bodies are moved from the window seat to the cellar to the car outside, accusations and threats fly back and forth. And finally, enters the head of the Happy Dale Sanitarium. Trying to protect society without sending his brothers to prison, Anthony ecstatically agrees when they insist on going to Happy Dale with Feerz. Anthony happily departs with Maria, but before they leave their house, they offer a drink to the head of Happy Dale, who is a lonely older gentleman, and he gladly accepts a glass of the the elderberry wine…..!
