Sunit Tandon introduces a live video recording from the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, starring Placido Domingo, of Saint-Saëns’ best known opera that unfolds a version of the familiar biblical story of the powerful Israelite warrior Samson who falls victim to the seductive allure of the Philistine beauty Delilah and is betrayed. This is amongst the most popular of French Romantic operas and contains two much loved often heard arias for Delilah “Printemps qui commence” and “Mon cœur s’ouvre à ta voix.”
