Event Description : THEATRE : Alliance Française de Delhi and Lycée Français de Delhi as a part of Francophonie week 2017 present "Les Caprices de Marianne" french play. 

Lycée Français de Delhi mounts a "classic", Les Caprices de Marianne, by Alfred de Musset, 1833.
Their students have embarked on this adventure and they will dare to perform these extraordinary scenes in front of audience. It will be amusing to see these budding artists trying their hand at their role.
They present Octave and Coelio, the two emblematic characters of the theater of Musset “Romantic devils”. The one, Coelio - is a "fundamentalist of love". He loves Marianne, but have never touched or approached her. His emotions are intense and pure. His timidity is modesty. He is afraid of degrading the dream. 
And the other, Octave, is his forever friend. He sees that his friend, Coelio, is the unhappiest of men and he proposes him his intervention. Octave is the flamboyant, and very well-known himself in women, he consumes them, he gave himself with all his soul to debauchery. He takes up the challenge and promises to deliver his cousin. The beautiful Marianne is from his family, whose heart and body throbs with desires.
The actors will represent some excerpts of these games between Octave and Marianne. She is extremely alive, thrown by her mother into a parody of real life. She was married - for money - to a notable, Judge Claudio, old, pretentious, jealous, dangerous, the symbol of the Order as he could be hated. 
They show you the great tirade of Marianne, one of the first "feminists" of French theater, but of a feminism of another age. You will see her in her revolt, damaged by religion.
Hermia, Coelio's mother. Her scene is like an intimate parenthesis - the only interior scene in the play - that comes to weigh a dark weight on the story that is played. What is a "romantic mother"? Come to see...
