Event Description : TALK "Choosing Between - Women Leaders in Conversation'" LILA Terra-Sutra Talk 3

Harmala Gupta is a cancer survivor, a pioneer in palliative cancer care in India, and an award-winning    activist. In 1991, she founded the first cancer support group in India, ‘Cancer Sahyog’, and in 1996 ‘CanSupport’. Harmala is also Founder-President of Cancer Care India, an umbrella organization of cancer support groups in the country, and in the Governing Body of the Rajiv Gandhi Cancer Institute, Delhi. 

Jaya Jaitly is the founder of  the Dastkari Haat Samiti that enables craftspeople to gain confidence in the marketplace through innovative strategies. She conceptualised Dilli Haat and ensured its establishment. Her work with crafts people of India, Pakistan, Vietnam, Thailand, Sri Lanka, and African countries has been very influential in diplomacy. With over 40 years of field experience, she has extensively documented the arts, crafts and textiles of India. She is the editor and publisher of The Other Side, a monthly journal of democratic socialist thought and action.

Jolly Rohatagi has worked towards the inclusion of disadvantage in society, marketing of handicrafts,     developing people with disability through the therapeutic medium of art etc., with communities in a number of states in the country. She is a Resource Consultant for NSD, INTACH etc., and is a founding member of Jan Madhyam . She is a visiting faculty at Indian Institute of Art and Design, and has many publications in the areas of livelihood, crafts, design and product development etc. 

Marking the extension of LILA's vision and work into a new movement called LILA Terra-Sutra,we bring you an intense series of reflections on CARE, CONNECTION, and CHOICE. On this Women’s Day, we invite you to join us for a special Terra-Sutra interface programme  inspired by Savitribai Phule’s words:  “Education should give one the ability to choose between right and wrong and between truth and untruth in life.” This intense conversation among three women leaders focuses on the question of choice. It illustrates through the examples of their personal stories, how choice becomes an important marker of one's freedom.

2017 marks a significant extension of LILA's vision and work. As a part of this new movement that we call LILA Terra-Sutra, we invite you to join us for a programme where we are collaborating with artist Probir Gupta (Muktangan) in whose dedication to train a team of underserved children as self-reliant artists and life-makers, we find the possibility of combining 'thinking' and 'knowing' with 'caring', 'connecting' and 'making a responsible choice'. 
You also get a chance to see the works of some of our brilliant artists who are supporting this project by exhibiting their works along with the children's.
LILA is bringing an intense series of reflections alongside Probir's project; we hope this will lead us to unexpected insights. Please note the dates and timings for the LILA TERRA-SUTRA CONVERSATIONS on Care, Connection and Choice.
